Choosing Converge and Dito

Fiber Internet is the most reliable data transmission method for data-hungry activities, such as gaming or livestreaming |
In November 2024, I bought a Dito Home Wi-Fi modem via Shopee. On November 25, 2024, I activated the Dito SIM via registration. The Dito modem is an LTE-enabled device that broadcasts 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. I chose Dito because Globe and PLDT/Smart are overcrowded. As the Wi-Fi unit is LTE-only and doesn't support 5G, there are two prepaid subscriptions, a ₱180 weekly subscription giving 30 GB and a ₱480 monthly subscription giving 50 GB. Aside from residential Wi-Fi, I use Dito as primary calling and texting network; I only use Globe and PLDT/Smart when I visit areas with zero Dito coverage.
Dito is high tech in the way that its 4G/LTE infrastructure natively supports voice calls and video calls, while its 5G/NR infrastructure operates independently of LTE. On Dito LTE, you can make high-definition calls and even video calls without having an Internet connection. Dito never occupies the outdated 2G and 3G. On NR, the infrastructure operates all by itself and does not rely on LTE hardware. This is called 5G Standalone or pure 5G. This in turn gives LTE more free bandwidth for subscribers. An independent NR means that Dito will be happy to install small cell sites wherever there is high demand for wireless Internet, such as city propers or business districts.
Aside from Dito, in January 2025, I applied to subscribe to Converge because the demand for Intenet data annihilated my Dito Wi-Fi subscriptions. 30 GB meant for 7 days and 50 GB meant for 30 days—the demand used them up in 3 to 4 days. Watching Internet videos and downloading software updates. I chose the ₱1,500 monthly subscription, which gives a transmission speed of up to 300 Mbps (39.3 MB/s). As it is a fiber-optic subscription, there is no data limit. However, given that maximum speed, up to 1.5 terabytes can be transmitted in a month. I applied to rent Converge fiber to provide heavy users a Wi-Fi that entertains their demands without the nagging data runouts. On February 2, 2025, Converge technicians installed and activated the modem. Converge has a wide variety of subscription regimes, 2 regimes for residential users and numerous regimes for business users. The residential subscription regimes are FiberX and Surf2Sawa. FiberX is postpaid and supports an unlimited number of devices under a single modem. Surf2Sawa is prepaid and supports up to 6 devices under a single modem. I chose the FiberX regime because my house has 18 electronics to serve, 3 times the maximum limit of Surf2Sawa.
In January 2024, Converge and Dito signed an agreement to share network infrastructure with each other. Such an agreement could pressure competitors to improve their infrastructure, as Converge and Dito have robust infrastructure and plenty of space for new subscribers. Converge has 2.46 million subscribers (November 2024), while Dito has 13 million (October 2024). Compare those with Globe's 60 million and PLDT/Smart's also 60 million (December 2024). Me choosing Converge and Dito for Wi-Fi is about decongesting Globe and PLDT/Smart. Infrastructure stress relief is overdue for any known congested network. Converge will be my main Wi-Fi for its speed and high-performance modem. Dito will be the backup, to be used when a signal loss occurs in Converge fiber.
