Dreams in Monochrome describes what happens in a world maintained by high technology but devoid of sense of humanity. The story elaborates how robots have a potential to overcome their human inventors. The city in the story is dominated by robots and artificial intelligence (AI), and a metaverse. The metaverse is to sophisticated that in an immersive view, it can surpass the real world of their characters. However, the mateverse has a noticeable vulnerability in which the participating avatars can get stuck in its seemingly infinite space. As the story implies, robots can act like people, but they can be restored to being just another piece of hardware. The main characters, Erika and Theo, explore a demoralized global city and then stage a revolution to restore a sense of humanity. Dreams in Monochrome conveys the message that humanity should moderate its reliance on technology.

Application to this universe

A technology system should serve the society that created it, rather than be the master. We all know that technology has disadvantages, and that list just keeps growing. Humanity, especially global humanity, should embrace the natural world once again. There is a novel sentiment that humanity should embrace manual labor. This makes sense, as a manual configuration gives people more control. History says that early humanity thrived on manual technologies.
